Emergency, Chemo, and Radiation

So today I took mamaw to get blood work done at the cancer center. They check her blood pressure and the alarms went off. It was 215 over 130. Very dangerous, very very high! They called her in to talk to the nurse and she had them to draw blood, and give her a blood pressure pill to get it down.

Well the nurse didn't like how swelled she was, and that her breathing was getting worse so she called us in to talk to the radiation doctor. He went over the pet scan with us, and there was some bad news, and some kind of good news. The tumor had grown so much that it has wrapped itself around one of the main arteries in her chest. It could cause her to have a stroke, or go into heart failure. That is what is causing the swelling, the loss of breathe, and the high blood pressure. He said we had to move very quickly, that it was an emergency and they would have to start both chemo, and radiation today!

I am so relieved that they started treatment, and I am so glad that this doctor was pissed that all the other doctors hadn't done anything yet. He said by looking at her anyone could see that they needed to start treatment quickly.

She had her first session of chemo today, she will have two more this week. They marked her for radiation today, and will begin it tomorrow. They will be doing chemo three times a week, and radiation every day.
